Sale Away with Quantity Discounts

One of the most effective methods to prod a customer into hauling off a boatload of products is to offer quantity discounts. Many buyers actually expect this to be available when buying in volume. Quantity discounts can be a quick method of creating sales for specific products, sales on a category of products, or even an efficient tool to put your whole store on sale at once. Your AspDotNetStorefront software makes this a breeze.

You can create quantity discounts as either a percentage or a fixed amount discount, with an expandable set of quantity ranges in a table format for simple setup and editing. You can make as many of them as you need, and apply the tables to individual products, an entity, or set one up as a global quantity discount table for all products through the Configuration > Store Wide Maintenance menu.

Once you have created a Quantity Discount table (Configuration > Pricing and Promotions > Quantity Discounts), it will be available when editing products or entities in a drop-down list on the Main tab. If an entity has been set to use a Quantity Discount Table, that table will be used on all sub-entities and products under the entity with the Quantity Discount Table set to None.

Quantity Discount displayed "Inline"When you have a product or entity set to use a quantity discount, you have two choices for display on the storefront: either visible as a table on the product details page, or as a link that expands to show the table on mouseover. This option is set using the AppConfig: ShowQuantityDiscountTablesInline.

Quantity Discounts displayed "Inline" falseOnce a buyer adds a quantity of product to their cart that qualifies for a discount, the cart line item subtotal will be modified to reflect the discount and the discount value or percentage will be displayed underneath the subtotal.

The quantity discount table doesn’t seem to be working for me. I indicated that any quantity from 2 to 100 should have a 50% discount. But when 2 or more items are added to the cart, it adds 1 cent for each additional item not the full 50% cost. Any ideas why this might be happening?

There are many factors involved with storefront behavior. If it is misbehaving as yours seems to be, please create a support ticket with our free Help Desk so we can assist specifically with your site’s issue.

If the resolution is pertinent to others (not site specific), we will post it here.

I did get the discount pricing to work. Here’s another question though – is there a way to get that ‘discount’ amount to show up in the reports?

We have it showing the sub total including discount for line items but the subtotal at the bottom doesn’t include the discount so it’s rather confusing. Looking at the aspx file it looks like it’s possible to switch the system to show subtotal including discounts – anyone have any idea how?!
